New data retention rules for Google Analytics

6.12.23

When you save a scan with a predefined date range (for example, the last 28 days), the scan will now display the last 28 days from the time the scan is opened, rather than from the time the scan is created. If a standard property becomes "Large" or a 360 property becomes "XL" (collecting more than 25 billion and 250 billion billable events in the last 31 days respectively), the event-level data retention setting is automatically reduced to 2 months, and event-level data older than 2 months becomes inaccessible and is permanently deleted. This change will affect very few Google Analytics properties. If your property is about to reach these limits based on weekly event volume, we will now send a warning e-mail to all property administrators. When the limit is reached, we'll send another e-mail to all property administrators to inform them that the data retention setting has been reduced. Between these two notifications, you can reduce the number of billable events sent to the Google Analytics 4 property to stay within the current limits of your property's size, and maintain longer event retention. If you've received the warning for a free property, you can also upgrade to version 360 to benefit from higher limits. Find out more about data retention settings.

New Google Analytics 4 features: third-party segments and default conversions.

27.7.23

Google Analytics 4 now enables the use of third-party segments with Google Ad Manager audiences. When you link your Analytics property to Google Ad Manager, with Google signals enabled and ad personalization activated in the link settings, audiences are automatically exported to Ad Manager. You can use audiences as they are for targeting, or combine them with other audiences. You can also perform analyses on them. In addition, it is now possible to define a default value for a conversion event in Google Analytics. So, if the 'currency' and 'value' parameters are not defined for the conversion event, Google Analytics will use the default value you set. If the event already has a value, the default value is not applied.

New consent recommendation for Google Analytics

13.9.23

Google Analytics offers a new recommendation when implementing consent mode in gtag.js, Google Tag Manager or the Google Analytics for Firebase SDK. This recommendation states that if pings without cookies are blocked by Google Tags or the Consent Management Platform, most reports in Google Analytics 4 will use behavioral modeling to fill in the gaps. This will be done through machine learning by modeling the behavior of users who refuse analytics cookies, based on the behavior of similar users who accept them. To find out more, read about unblocking Google tags when using consent mode.

New reports for advertising platforms integrated into Google Analytics 4

7.12.23

Google Analytics 4 offers new reports for analyzing data from integrated advertising platforms, including Campaign Manager 360, Display & Video 360 and Search Ads 360. Once ad platforms have been successfully integrated, the corresponding reports can be accessed via an integration-specific overview card in the Acquisition Overview report. For example, if you integrate Display & Video 360, you'll see "View Display & Video 360 campaigns", which will open the new Display & Video 360 report. Even if you remove an ad platform from your property, the report will remain accessible in the Acquisition Overview to analyze historical data.

New advertising reports in Google Analytics 4

7.12.23

Google Analytics 4 has introduced new reports that allow you to analyze data from 360 advertising platforms integrated with your Google Analytics 4 property. These reports include the Campaign Manager 360 report, the Display & Video 360 report and the Search Ads 360 report. When you successfully integrate your various advertising platforms, you can access the reports by selecting the integration-specific overview card added to the Acquisition Overview report. For example, if you integrate with Display & Video 360, you'll see "View Display & Video 360 campaigns", which opens the new Display & Video 360 report. Even if you remove a link to a buying platform from your property, the report will still be accessible from the Acquisition Overview report so you can continue to analyze historical data. To power the new acquisition reports, we've added new traffic source dimensions that are available when you link Campaign Manager 360, Display & Video 360 and/or Search Ads 360. The new dimensions are available at event, session and user level. With this update, you can now use cross-channel dimensions such as Source, Session Source and First User Source to understand cross-channel acquisition data. Then, you can use new integration-specific dimensions such as SA360 Source, SA360 Session Source and SA360 First User Source to analyze acquisition data for a specific buying platform. You can now link Google Analytics 4 (GA4) properties to AdSense accounts directly from Analytics. If you use GA4 sub-properties or consolidated properties, you can now link these properties to AdSense accounts independently of the source properties.
